at the end of this video phil x plays whole lotta love, and uses an iphone for the solo. coolest friggen thing i've seen in a long long long time.

That is awesome - I have that app and was considering just holding it up to the mic to play something - but it is even cooler through the guitar pickup, and that is the perfect song for it. What happens if he gets a call in the middle of the solo though? :bonk

i love him. what a great player. yes, i've watched hours of his vids...they are great. i wish he would just do a power trio band and sing, w/ some great songs he could kick some serious *ss.....would love to see it... thanks for posting that....& yes his version of whole lotta love was great....

I am very pleased about his getting the Bon Jovi gig while Richie Sambora dried out. It's great to see someone passionate and honestly deserving make their bones finally.

Works ony any pickups - remember paul Gilbert and Van Halen using the power drill to get those screaching sounds.

Dave Navarro used to run a vibrator over the pickups also....

Anything that generates a vibrating magnetic field will get picked up by a guitar pickup. So, cell phones, digital watches, earphones, or the motor in an electric drill would all work.

Some of the most enjoyable musical moments I've had lately have been jamming using Bebot, the Iphone app that Phil is using there. Just lying there in bed with headphones on, with Bebot set to a Mixolydian mode, playing along with some major-key song I've got playing on the Iphone. I've enjoyed doing that more than playing guitar.
